The HoneyComb Engine is a flexible, open source participatory-storytelling framework. It is being developed in Python and it’s an exploration of my theories on non-authoritative storytelling–that is, storytelling where the audience is in control. While I have an overall design that I am reaching for, I am developing each component of the framework to meet a particular need, or test a particular theory. This means the HoneyComb Engine will ultimately look very different in five years than I am picturing it today.
The first components I’m developing will serve as a storytelling aid for the Drachurae Cycle RPG manuals. As I become a more proficient storyteller with this new language I’m learning, there are other projects and games which will be produced and freely released to the web, including AddiCuve, Dat’s Moider!, La Ville de Chiens and ultimately, a persistent online version of The Crystal City and the world Taeompei from the Drachurae Cycle.
